2019 Wells Reunion Report

The sixty-second Wells Reunion was held at Chunky Baptist Church Gymnasium on Saturday, June 8, 2019 on a beautiful day. President Kary Nicholson presided. Joe Jackson was Vice President. Secretary-Treasurer Brenda Nicholson reported a treasury balance of $4818. plus cents. Upon motion duly made and seconded the officers were unanimously re-elected. As there is another fund caring for the Center Ridge Cemetery for the present, our expenses are light, our balance hefty, and no collection was taken. Outstanding food preparers were recognized:

Best Meat - Brenda Nicholson’s meatballs
Best Salad - Faye Coit’s Grape Salad
Best Casserole - Mary Gressett & Lauren Hayes
Best Dessert - Ashley Massey & Mary Gressett

The next Reunion is scheduled for the second Saturday in June, 2020, at the Chunky Baptist Church, at 10:30 AM.

The Wells Reunion History

The first consecutive Wells Reunion was held at The Center Ridge Baptist Church on June 30, 1957. Joe Wells brought the welcome and Ruth Dunklin brought the response. The opening hymn was reported as “On Jordan’s Stormy Banks, I’ll Stand”. Mrs. Sarah Tatum Carlson was the pianist. Prayer was offered by Earl LaCaste of Pearl River, LA. J. H. Wells, J. N. Nichols, Pearl Wells Tatum, T. M. Rainer and Pete Hailey spoke and reminisced about the Wells family in the neighborhood. An offering of $51.60 was taken and given to the building fund. The register showed 81 people from three states attended. This is taken from the 1990 program. We met on the second Sunday in June thru 1985. The date was changed to the Saturday preceding the second Sunday in June because an ex hog farmer, T. J. Archie had gotten our permission to hold Church services at the historic Center Ridge Church.
